Hey everyone,
I’m an electronic music producer and long-time fan, and for the past year, I’ve been building Psychill Space - a platform designed specifically to handle the depth, micro-genres, and community aspects of the electronic scene.
While the project originally kicked off with a focus on psychedelic electronic music (psychill, psydub, downtempo, psytrance), the infrastructure is built to map the incredibly complex web of electronic sub-genres. I wanted to build something that moves away from corporate algorithms and brings back community curation and deep music discovery.
Here is a breakdown of what the platform does:

The Micro-Genre Archive & Genre Map

Electronic music has infinite sub-genres, and standard streaming platforms suck at classifying them. Psychill Space fixes this through crowdsourced data:
  • Track Profiling: Users can vote on specific track genres, sub-genres, moods, and tags.
  • Interactive 2D Genre Map: As the database gets populated, a visual 2D map updates in real time. It uses spatial clustering to display similar and commonly coexisting genres next to each other. You can literally see which albums sit on the boundary between psychill, ambient, and IDM, and preview them directly from the map.
  • Deep Filtering: Includes an advanced search engine and a "Discovery Mode" to hunt down obscure releases based on highly specific tag combinations.

Platform-Agnostic Curation (Bandcamp, Spotify, Tidal, etc.)

As electronic music fans, we constant jump between Bandcamp for underground releases, SoundCloud for sets, and Spotify/Tidal for streaming.
  • Unified Link Hubs: Every track page in our database automatically aggregates links to Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, and more.
  • Frictionless Sharing: If you share a track in our community feed, other users can launch it instantly in their preferred player with one click, eliminating the need to search separately.

Events, Lineups, and Discographies Connected

  • Sub-Genre Event Tracking: A built-in directory for festivals, club nights, and gatherings.
  • Integrated Lineups: You can browse local event lineups and click straight through to an artist's discography and track profiles within the site, making it easy to scout artists before buying festival tickets. (We are still actively populating the events database).

Community Feed & Music/Production Discord

  • The Social Layer: An ad-free hybrid between a Twitter-like feed and classic forum/Reddit discussion boards, built purely for music sharing and discussion.
  • Discord Server (Est. 2021): We also run an active, 24/7 Discord chat with dedicated channels for music production, gear, synth talk, track feedback, hobbies and more.
Whether you’re a listener looking for deep cuts, an event-goer tracking lineups, or a fellow producer looking to talk shop, I’d love for you to check it out and share your thoughts.
