my friend had the opportunity to join a major label, she flew from UK to LA just for them to reject her, their reasons were she didn't have a big enough following! It's not what people think its so difficult, but music forums like this are an amazing help, and should be part of every artists toolkit.

My advice to a new musician is to join a record label. You are not joining because you are better than them but it's a pathway for people to hear you and also call for your service. The record label will promote the new musician, at least they have something to benefit.
